Savanna Hair Co. – Octocurl

I created this product out of a personal need. I’ve never liked using heat on my hair so I would wash my hair at night and twist it up into a microfiber turban to dry my hair overnight while creating some waves.
There were 2 problems:
1) It always fell off 2) I wanted more curls
So early summer of 2017 I played around with the idea of sewing strips onto a headband. By December we were online and we’ve loved bringing it to you ever since! xo

How did we get our start?
Our founder created the original Octocurl design at her kitchen table in the summer of 2017 by cutting up strips of paper and stapling them to a headband. She became obsessed with this idea and tested all summer by using single strips, double strips, quadruple strips… she wrapped, curled, twisted, bent, & braided.
What problem are we solving?
There are countless heat tools on the market. Our mission is to offer options for great hair styling without the use of heat.
Why do we love what we do?
We truly enjoy helping women look and feel their best while also “going easy”!

Easy, effective, great concept!
Works so well on my daughter’s (10yr) pin straight, thick hair. Curls last 24 hours+ – previously with heat they would barely last 3-4 hours. She gives it only 4.5 stars because “it doesn’t also add glitter to my hair, THEN it would be perfect”! Everytime she showers and washes her hair she asks for the Octocurl – it’s easy, quick, doesn’t disturb her sleep and makes great, bouncy curls the next morning!

Amazing!
Super comfy for overnight curls, surprisingly! I found it easy to use on myself. I sprayed my hair until damp with water and left in for roughly 8 hours. Curls turned out fantastic! I recommend a silk bonnet over top to keep from tangling. I have a TON of LONG hair and the smaller sections resulted in a much better curl than traditional heatless curl methods.

Maybe user error…?
Not really sure I know how to use these properly. I have very curly hair and though this may give me a loose curl style option. They are somewhat easy to use, but I think there’s a learning curve. My ends got tangled up in them and my hair was a frizzy mess. Not really sure if it’s me or the product

Works well!
curler worked well. Will definitely take a few times to figure out. I should have gone with a curler for medium length hair. I am a side sleeper and overall it was confortable.

try something else
not the best option. Very hard to deal with. Doesn’t stay in place, doesn’t come with clips and hard to clip anyway due to design. the ties on the end create the kinks and folding them like it says does not help. Creates shirley temple curls, trying to use multiple together is not easy. And the rollers weren’t long enough for me. I’ll have to try something else. Definitely disappointed.

Soft Curls Without the Damage
So easy to use! I sleep in it comfortably and wake up with bouncy curls. No heat needed, just patience.

Theres also learning curve but it really does work!!
This takes a little experience to get the hang of it. But when you do! Goodness it works very well. The first time I tried using this it turned out terrible. The second time it turned out fantastic. I’ll give you a few pointers that helped me. I did not use any hair products at all. Im not sure how that would impact the outcome. The first time I tried it, I rolled or twisted the hair tight before twisting it onto the octocurl. This just made it more difficult to release or break up the curls when removing the hat. I found just looping the hair around the ropes worked best. Make sure you are brushing the hair as you go, so in the morning it comes out smooth and not tangled. I wrap the strand a few times, brush the strand and repeat until I get to the bottom. When you get to the bottom leave about an inch of hair OUT and about 1 inch of the rope without hair. Fold the rope where there is no hair and use the rubber band to secure. Leave the end of the hair outside of the wrap. If you dont you will get a tangled crimped up mess at the ends of the hair. When your wrapping the hair start at the top of the head and take a small ammount at first, and as you go down add more to the twist, from the scalp, similar to French braiding (but much easier). When you first start, clip the hat to your hair so it stays in place. Don’t put to much on one twist. If you need to, you can divide your hair in two and it makes it easier to judge how much to divide between the twists. I did start with dry hair and sprayed it with a mister. Im not very good at giving tutorials but you get the idea. Im glad my daughter talked me into trying it once more before tossing it because the first and second time using it was night and day. My daughter has stick straight hair and this device is incredible. I’ll show the first and second try in photos.

Good Idea poor execution
I can see the vision yet did not work for my hair. Made awkward curls, kinky ends and overall ended up just washing out the curls before leaving my house.
