Great knives
Great knifes the quality is nice. They are very sharp and cut well. Like the look of the stand and that it does not need a lot of space.

Weak magnetism
Love these knives, only issue is the magnet is weak and they slide quite a bit, wish magnet was stronger. Overall, I like the look, feel and quality so far.

Great quality
Knives came very sharp and seems to be high quality steel. Magnets on the block could be stronger but they hold just fine.

Beautiful and great knives
Great alternative to the traditional knife block and I love the way it looks. It also has a built in sharpener which is awesome. The knives are also great quality and there’s a one for every need of a home cook. I also love that there’s still room on the backside if you wanna add some knives you already have. The regular chef’s knife is missing from my picture because I just used it but it does come with all pictured and the chef knife.

great set!
BEAUTIFUL knives!! Very sharp, easy to handle, all around great. Only things that knock it down a star is that only the top half of the board is magnetized, so you can’t align the knives horizontally and there’s no real weight to the bottom board, so when you take a knife off, you have to hold the whole thing down. I might tape some heavy duty velcro to the bottom and countertop to avoid this problem though!

These are absolutely gorgeous gorgeous knivesEverything about them is high quality with exquisite workmanship. The only thing about this beautifully crafted kitchen knife set that I’m not so keen on is the storage.Which is what I will touch on first. The magnetic stand is really nice so I’m not going to fault it in any way for its design. But for me, it seems to be more-so of a show off piece for where the knives can be displayed and seen. The embedded Earth magnets in the display board are really strong but there can be some teeter-shift of the knives when all are placed on this stand. What I am saying is they may not always sit vertical (straight up and down) and the handles may tilt a tiny bit, forward or aft. Maybe not a big deal for some, but for visual aesthetics you may find yourself constantly/periodically correcting the stance of each knife. What makes the knives want to shift a tiny bit on this magnetic stand is due to the collar of each knife (the forged joint/junction between the bottom of the blade to the handle) as it is angled. Moreover, due to the strength of the embedded magnets, the removal, disengagement, of each knife is a two-handed affair. You can’t just easily pull off a knife without the entire platform either moving along with you or shifting from its placement on your counter. There’s a whole new learning curve required for successfully disengaging any of the knives from the magnetic board.Grabbing a handle and moving sideways may totally upset the balance and the whole stand then falls down.So grabbing a handle and carefully lifting vertical works or grabbing a handle then pivoting(turning the handle) ever so slightly so that the core-mass of the steel blade disengages from the magnets, then lift. Also, each knife must must must be completely clean and dry before placing it back on this magnetic stand/base. If not, there will be residual gunk stuck between the entire knife blade and wooden stand. It is a behavioural learning curve. Personally, I would have preferred a butcher block optionThat hard wood handles are exquisite. Ultra smooth to the touch and seamlessly moulded to the blade. The wood handles are crafted out of a Pakkawood which means they are a combo of a composite wood and resin for strength, durability and water resistance. The grain within each handle gives off a visually pleasing Rosewood appearance.Deep browns with a tiny hint of reddish rose grains. Very nice! The blades of these knives are equally well crafted with extreme high quality.I would easily say these knives are equal to if not better than my 5 Star Henckels. What I especially like is the weight of each knife. All are well-balanced and none are top blade heavy or heeled-handle heavy.Right out of the box each knife is extremely sharp. The paper cut test was like butter. What’s most outstanding and what I find most appealing about these knives are its design and its approach to form-to-function.Most notably are the Santoku and Fillet knives. Both have this flare-up design of the blade that makes them so appealing not just visually but when using.Usually, Santoku and fillet knives are straight and kinda stiff looking. When chopping with a straight blade, more effort (downward brute-force) is required where a curved blade creates its own slicing procedure during the chop. These design elements of the Santoku knife make this one of my new favourite knives to use.Same with the light-clever chop knife the Nakiri. As same with the Fillet knife except for one aspect which is that this Fillet knife is rather stiff and not as flexible as I personally would like. It’s not as bendable when gliding sideways across my cutting board. Maybe it will loosen up and become more flexible over time as I use it more.Overall, this is one premium knife set that is well worth the investment.

What’s included:- 8″ Chef Knife- 7″ Nakiri Knife- 7″ Santoku Knife- 7″ Fillet Knife- 6″ Utility Knife- 3.75″ Fruit Knife- Knife BlockThe set of 6 Chef knives by HOSHANHO perform well but not as well as others and there’s a simple reason why – the materials used. The knives are made of something called AUS 10 steel and that means the knives blades are made of a combination of carbon, along with chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium. So what does that mean from a practical sense?1. High hardness and edge retention – These knives can be used for a while without dulling2. Good resistance to corrosion but not as good as VG10 knives.3. Won’t chip as easily as others4. More on the affordable side of the spectrum than something like VG10 steel knivesOn the flipside…1. Slightly worse performance than premium steel like VG102. Slightly less resistant to corrosion than something like VG10 knives3. Slightly lower edge retentionSo right off the bat, these knives are not going to give the ideal performance vs counterparts such as VG10 knives. The knives are well made. The are forged so they are made of one piece of steel and the handles (although for the smaller knives I found to be too small) are attractive and durable since they are not really made of pure wood. While pure wood is nice, it can be impacted by certain conditions that can lead to warping etc so that isn’t what I want in a knife set so I am glad to see the knives with a mixed material handle. There is a good mixture of knives included in the set for just about any task in the kitchen whether it be peeling of skin from a fruit or cutting through a rack of lamb – these knives are up to the task. The blades of the knives are angled at 15 degrees and this makes them on the sharper side of the spectrum and while that is great when cutting through things, its just a reminder to be thoughtful when using the knives because the lower the angle, the sharper the knife and the sharper the knife the greater the possibility of a possible chip. Thankfully, I have not had anything like that happen thus far.The knife set does come with a magnetic wooden block which serves as both a storage and a visually appealing item in the kitchen – but my main focus is on the knives and their performance and here is what I can say thus far based on my use up until this point. Thus far the knives have performed well. There have been no issues and after a few weeks the knives are in good shape not needing any sharpening. I would say that I use the Chef knife and Fruit knife most frequently, and they are easy to use and comfortable in hand.In terms of their results, the knives have no issues. I do use a softer based cutting board when using the Chef knife and that will help extend edge retention, and so far no complaints. The Fruit knife performs equally well, and is easy to use, but here I would just point out that these are really sharp knives especially out of the box, so when being used it requires being extra cautious. My only real complaint is the length of the handles which for example for the fruit knife is only about 9cm when measuring from the bottom side from the base of the handle to the end (see included picture). This is small for me but for others it may be fine.As far as long term prospects, I know that these knives will not (in theory) last as long as a VG10 knives all else being equal, but for every day use, and combining a nice mixture of knives for all scenarios this is a rather good set of knives that will be useful for a reasonable period of time. I do notice a slight difference in quality between my VG10 knives vs these knives especially when comparing the Chef knives but having these gives me the ability to be a little more choosy as to when to use my more premium VG10 knives. At the end of the day, ,this is a reasonably good set of knives and the wooden block is quite nice. For some perhaps having a knife set on full display rather than a traditional block may not be ideal, but I find that it adds to a kitchen’s character and the silver colour blades do go with a stainless steel kitchen appliance set.
