Nature Lovers will love this book!!
Comfort from Creation: Nature Parables that Nurture the Soul by Harold E. Kohn is a delightful novel that has been independently republished by Hidden Brook Press. Mr. Kohn was a pastor, counselor, illustrator, and poet and lived in the Charlevoix, Michigan area on forty acres he called Hidden Brook. He often walked and sat in the woods listening to nature talk to him, and this book is his reflections on those times.I have truly enjoyed reading Mr. Kohn’s observations and lessons that nature shared with him during his visits to the woods and fields and waters of Hidden Brook. The illustrations included on Comfort from Creation’s pages were drawn by Mr. Kohn also, and add to the depth of the words on the pages. As a nature lover myself who has spent many hours walking and observing God’s creatures in His creation, this book has truly touched my heart and refreshed my soul. Often when life gets heavy and hard, I too find myself heading to the woods at my home seeking inspiration and comfort from God’s creatures. I have often gone with a sense of hopelessness or sadness, only to realize upon returning home that my soul has once again been refreshed and renewed by the sights and sounds I found there. No matter the season or the weather, healing and hope can be found among the leaves talking with the help of the breeze blowing through its foliage, or the gentle whisper of a babbling brook, or the snort of the deer welcoming you to its home. From the chipmunks and squirrels to the fish to the wild turkeys just living life as God ordained for them, it’s impossible to return home with depressing thoughts or the worries of the world weighing you down.Mr. Harold Kohn definitely was a soul brother to me, and I have so very much enjoying reading his words in Comfort from Creation and will treasure this book the rest of my life, and will read it often. The short chapters/stories can be read in any order at any time. THis book would make a wonderful Christmas or birthday gift for the nature lovers you are seeking a treasure for, or anyone in your life in need of a gentle reminder that nature is truly the best healer of life’s hurts.

A Gem!
I was fortunate to have received a copy of COMFORT FROM CREATION by Harold E. Kohn and this little book is filled with wisdom. I admit I am not much of an outdoorsman, but the way Kohn ties in our wondrous world and its nature to spiritual truths is exceptional. A bonus is that Pastor Kohn illustrated the book as well as writing it. This is a book that I will refer to because one reading isn’t enough. Highly recommend.
